# Chat overview

> Use Forge Chat to investigate and act with the right organization, account, ticket, or project context.

Chat is the common work surface across Forge. It combines a conversation, files, connected systems, and a clear scope so you can move from question to action without repeatedly rebuilding context.

## Start with the right scope

When you create a Chat, choose the object that should anchor it:

* **Organization** for policies, broad operations, or work spanning accounts.
* **Account** for customer-specific strategy, systems, or history.
* **Ticket** for an incident or service request.
* **Project** for scoping, delivery, risk, or task coordination.

You can also start Chat from a ticket, project, opportunity, activity, account, agent run, or other supported workspace. In that case Forge carries the relevant context into the conversation.

## What Chat can do

Depending on the scope, connected systems, and your role, Chat can:

* summarize records and files;
* search connected systems;
* compare evidence and identify gaps;
* draft plans, notes, messages, and reports;
* use read or write tools;
* request approval for a protected action;
* create or update Forge artifacts;
* keep follow-up work attached to its source.

## Choose a model

**Fast** is designed for everyday work. **Smart** is the higher-capability choice for complex reasoning. Start with Fast for routine summaries and drafts; choose Smart when the task has ambiguous evidence, many constraints, or a costly decision.

## Stay in control

Chat starts in **Ask mode** when you select or change scope. Switch to **Full access** only when the task needs a write action. Forge displays approval requests above the composer; inspect the tool and target, then approve or deny each request.
